Twitnick

On the front page of today's NRC an article is called "Twitnick". It got immediately my attention. The article is about Alexander Pechtold, from D66. He has discoverd Twitter, and he already has 30.000 followers. He even sends tweets during debates.

He wanted to celebrate that he now has more than 30.000 followers and he invited his followers for a "Twitnick" instead of a picknick. The "Twitnick" was a Prosecco party under the Euromast in Rotterdam. At first it seemed a little bit quiet under the Euromast but later on, there suddenly came a lot of Alexander Pechtold's followers.

The possibility was there, to discuss with Alexander Pechtold about a lot of different subjects. For example he talked with a female student about healthcare in Holland and with a men about nuclear energy.

In my opinion this is a great way for politicians to get in contact with their "followers" (and then I do not only mean Twitter followers). By these events politicians get closer to the society.

Yahoo has the answers!

Yahoo knows the answer to all of your questions. Actually it is not Yahoo behind these answers, it are all the Yahoo members. Everyone with a Yahoo ID can give answers to someone else's questions with Yahoo Answers

The concept of Yahoo looks a little bit like Wikipedia, but this program is more interactive. Also Google has tried to produce a program like this. Google actually failed in doing this with Google Answers.

Yahoo Answers is a great succes, it even attracks celebrities, U2 lead singer Bono lately posteds a question. Some people think that this website is more about social networking then about finding answers on questions. Also a lot of dumb questions are posted, www.fokparty.com has put these 50 dumbest questions on their website.

So do you have a burning question, and do you think dat nobody knows the answer?

Online shopper

I am addicted to online shopping, it is easy, you can try your clothes at home in your own time. You don't need to wait in line for the fitting rooms or for the pay desk. Almost every shop in Holland has its own online shop nowadays. Some shops don't even have a store, only an online shop. Online shopping is the future.

It is not just e-shopping anymore, you can also follow your favourite brand or shop on Twitter. For example, I want to know when the new beach collection of lingerie shop Hunkemoller is in the shop, so I am following Hunkemoller on Twitter. Hunkemoller also organised a search across Holland for orange lingerie a few days before queensday. Via Twitter they gave the followers hints about where in Holland they could find the lingerie. The winner of this contest won €100,- to spend on lingerie from Hunkemoller.

With these kind of publicity Hunkemoller puts itself in the spotlight. Publicity via modern platforms like Twitter is a great way for the lingerie company to reach a large public.

Remind me to pay!

Metro 29th of April:
"Debt collection agencies are planning to send tweets in the future." The reason why they want to do this is because of the debts that people have in Holland. Nowadays there are 52250 people that have debt problems in Holland. By sending people a text message or tweet they immediately know that they have a bill to pay, en they will pay a lot faster, says Jet Creemers, chairwoman of this branch. Another reason to send tweets and text messages is to reduce administration costs. Debt collection agencies do no longer have to send reminders, and reminders with extra costs.

So can you imagine? You are sitting in the train and you get a reminder of a bill that you had to pay yesterday. In my opinion it is good to implement new programs and technologies in for example debt collection agenies, but if it works I do not know. Twitter is not meant for reminders of bills. Twitter was designed for publicity. So it may not have the effect that is wanted with these reminders via Twitter or your cell phone.

For the future there will be a lot more of these plans, not only the debt collection branche wants to use these platforms, but I think that a lot of companies discover, that for example, Twitter is a platform where you can reach your "customer".

While I am writing this blog I already get more used to the idea that my cell phone and computer are there for reminders. It may be quite easy to get such an alarm for paying my bills. I think that it is just a fact of getting used to it.
